One of my life stories is when I was playing soccer; my opponent on the other team had kicked my leg so hard that he fractured it.

Greetings from the Heart of the Sheraton Rockville Hotel

Greetings from the heart of the hotel! My name is Dagim Haileselassie and I am the Executive Housekeeping Manager at the Sheraton Rockville Hotel. As one of the two newest members of this great team, I have been with the Sheraton for three months. Coming from Atlanta, GA (or Hotlanta as we so affectionately refer to it), I expected this move to be a culture shock, but it really has not been. Born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the Washington, D.C., Maryland area, well known for its ridiculously LARGE Ethiopian diaspora, has been like going back home for me.

I believe a person’s identity should be ever evolving and never stagnant and if they are able to identify themselves with a particular thing/place and/or culture, all the better. Thanks to my beautiful, strong, loving mother, I have tried to shape my personality around values such as respect, integrity, generosity, & dedication. I think that’s what drew me to the hospitality industry. I feel good knowing that when others are away from home, we can make them feel like they have a family right where they are!

In my free time, I also practice yoga (not as often as I would like), dabble in photography, and volunteer with Unicef and Operation Smile. To my friends & family, I’m known as the “tell you like it is” one. I will never let someone walk out into the world looking crazy (especially if you’re with me) & if you’re in need of a reality check, I’m your girl. So when you’re on your way out to an important business meeting & you’re not sure if that belt matches those shoes, stop by our department. The ladies & I will tell you how it is.

**HaPPy HoLiDaYs** From the Sales Coordinator, Sheraton Rockville Hotel

I would be the Missing Piece to the Lovely Sales team here at the Sheraton Rockville !! Hello My name is Sara Torabian the Sales Coordinator of our marvelous brand new hotel.

I’m the baby of the hotel, the youngest employee and also the only employee which has worked in every department. I have found my home in the Sales department for the past eight months. I’m a full time college student and a strong believer in education; I live by the quote “Education is simply the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another.” ~G.K. Chesterton. I love to learn and educate myself and other this is why I like to tutor kids on my free time.

I speak 4 languages fluently have been to almost 27 countries and still counting. Another thing every one knows about me has to be all the blood I donate every month and also my hair, I donate my hair to the cancer association so that they can make wigs for Leukemia patients.

Growing up in a family where many of my relatives suffered from cancer and undergone chemotherapy lots of them had no hair after this process, this inspired me to donate my hair to individuals which didn’t have any. I have a little miniature pinscher which is 4 pounds and she’s the most precious thing in my life. I come from a very large Persian family which is the center of my world and the reason why I smile. My father is Persian and my mother is Turkish I love my culture and take lots of pride in it.

If you ever decided to have your wedding, wedding Toast, birthday party, Holiday party, bar/bat mitzvah in the Rockville area swing by to see me! Our staff will ROCK your event here at the Sheraton ROCKville.

Happy Holidays from the Sheraton Rockville Accounting Team!

Happy Holidays!

My name is Millet Juan, Accounting Manager of Sheraton Rockville.

I’ve been in the hospitality business since ’98, born and raised in the Philippines. I have lived all over the United States including CA, WY and GA, and for the past three years, Rockville has been my home. I certainly enjoy the adventure of moving and experiencing various climates.

I love scuba diving, being under water, fishes, snorkeling, fish feeding, water skiing, and sailing; anything about ocean you name it!

I think I’m the only certified open water diver that cannot swim since I have total faith in the tanks I carry on my back. My dream is to live under water, hopefully morphing into a mermaid living amongst my deep sea friends.

Besides loving the sun and the beach I like to spend time at home and enjoy R &B music, watching tv and eating but not gaining weight (don’t hate me for one of my blessings!)

It will be my pleasure meeting all of you soon. Please stop by and visit us here at the Sheraton Rockville at King Farm.

Best regards,

Millet Juan

Seasons Greetings from the Sheraton Rockville Food & Beverage Team!

Season Greetings!! My name is Winsett Roye, Director of Food and Beverage at the Sheraton Rockville. I have been in my current role for almost two years. Before moving to the D.C, Maryland area, I lived in Miami and Chicago. My friends think I’m a little crazy because I prefer cold weather over summer and get really excited when the weather forecast calls for snow. Maybe my next job should be somewhere cold with plenty of snow.

I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy skiing and biking. When I was living in Chicago, a friend of mine convince me to participate in a bike drive. He forgot to mention that it was 150 miles over two days. It was a fundraising event to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The National MS Society is a collective of passionate individuals who want to do something about MS now—to move together toward a world free of multiple sclerosis. MS stops people from moving. The society exists to make sure it doesn't. They help each person address the challenges of living with MS through their 50-state network of chapters. The Society helps people affected by MS by funding cutting-edge research, driving change through advocacy, facilitating professional education, and providing programs and services that help people with MS and their families move their lives forward.

My first year, my main motivation was to complete the challenge not knowing that I was riding for two individuals really close to me living with such a devastating disease. Soon after my first ride, I learned that my cousin and my best friends’ wife both suffered from MS. I would like to encourage you to participate in such events. It is rewarding to know that you can help and hopefully come closer to a cure for such terrible diseases. It will be the most rewarding journey you’ll ever make.

If you are in the Rockville area, come and visit us. Our Food & Beverage staff is one of the finest teams you will ever meet. They truly take pride in what they do. We hope to see you soon.

Hello from the Director of Sales-Sheraton Rockville

Hello, my name is Lee Ireland and I'm the Director of Sales for the “Best Kept Secret” in Rockville – The Sheraton Hotel. I have been in the industry for 25 years with 14 of those in the Rockville Gaithersburg Market.

I am married (40 years to the SAME man) and have two gorgeous grown daughters who have blessed me with a total of seven grandchildren! When I'm not shopping for one or more of my grandchildren, I enjoy spending time planting flowers on our 4 acre home located west of Hagerstown, MD. Summer evenings on our deck are some of the most relaxing moments of my day listening to my favorite tunes from Jimmy Buffet, Michael Buble and The Eagles. We love hosting family togethers, where everyone gets to cook their favorite foods and the grandchildren play football or run thru the sprinkler. It’s a good day when you only use one box of Band-Aids!
To my husband’s dismay, I love doing home improvement projects! I am pretty handy with a hammer, screwdriver and especially the paint brush. I am not a master craftsman, but I must admit, most of my projects are well worth the time and labor.
We expanded our family this year, by adopting a yellow lab from a rescue organization in PA. He is a 4 year old male and goes by the name of Sam. He fits our low keyed lifestyle perfectly- meaning -sleeping a lot on OUR bed!
My first trip to Aruba took place in May of this year. What a wonderful place to relax under an umbrella with a pina colada enjoying warm ocean breezes. Dinner served on the beach at sunset is the best! Highly recommend a visit, but before you leave, call me for the names of the good bartenders.

Sales Manager- Sheraton Rockville Hotel

Hello there! I would like to introduce myself as another team member of the Sheraton Rockville Crew. I am the Sales Manager for our gorgeous, brand new hotel in the heart of the King Farm Community. To my fellow co-workers, I am also known as the office klutz constantly spilling drinks everywhere but I blame this talent on the endless supply of Starbucks coffee that our hotel offers to the guests and employees.
Aside for my love of coffee, I am a self-declared "foodie" (meaning obsessed with all things edible). I used to live in Kentlands, which is a stone's throw away from the King Farm Community. Between these two developments, there is an endless list of restaurants which caters to every palette. My absolute favorite is Bonefish in Kentlands followed by Thai Farm across the streeet from our hotel. My love for dining is probably innate since I was born and raised in the Philippines where the culture of hospitality is centered on food. All my happy memories growing up seem to be related on a meal of some sort. I came to the states when I was nineteen and love living in the DC metro area. I now live in DC with my five year old Shar-pei, Dozer (originally named after bulldozers for his built but now aptly named for the amount of sleeping or "doz-ing" that he does). I am also a veteran fan of Texas Hold 'Em (a trait from my Dad) and a rookie fan of hockey, specifically our town's very own Washington Capitals. I am also a loyal fan of Starwood Hotels for many perks and reasons to share on this blog. I have enjoyed working in the hospitality industry since 2004. I hope to continue to grow my career and learn more during my time spent at the Sheraton Rockville.

General Manager - Sheraton Rockville Hotel

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Milan Patnaik, and I am the new General Manager of the Sheraton Rockville Hotel. I have been in the hospitality business since 1994 and have overseen many hotel openings, transitions and acquisitions. For those who know me best, my tendencies are to try to live nine lives simultaneously, striving to fit in each and every of life’s moments in to an already busy schedule. A true Libra, I am forever balancing the scales, changing my mind and weighing out the consequences before making any decision. Born in Clearfield, Pennsylvania, and raised in Annandale, Virginia - I live a very culturally enriched life coming from an Indian heritage.

Ever since I can remember I have always been the outdoors type, always convincing my family and friends to enjoy camping in the Shenandoah Valley. In total I have gone on over 100 camping trips and I probably own every piece of camping equipment Coleman makes. Fishing is another one of my favorite hobbies – biggest fish caught – a 4.5 feet long / 2 feet in girth Rockfish from Solomon’s Island, Maryland.

My passion for fishing probably drives my love for seafood: steamed crabs with Old Bay Season topping the list. When I am not watching the latest NFL headline on ESPN, I enjoy playing football, basketball, tennis or enjoying a leisurely motorcycle drive through Rappahannock County.
